JOB DUTIES
Greets and interacts with patients, staff and public in person and on the telephone.
Schedules patient Appointments to include laboratory, chemotherapy infusion, Physician/APP, injections, chemotherapy education and more.
Cross train in Reception and Registration areas of the Oncology Institute.
Prepares daily schedules, pre-registration and insurance verification components.
Relays messages and information to patients the hospital staff and other physician offices.
Ability to process and prioritize in a very busy medical practice setting.
Completes Special projects as designated.
Demonstrates appropriate oral communication skills with office staff regarding patient needs
Demonstrates appropriate written communication skills.
Maintains confidentiality of all hospital records, staff and patient activities, verbally, written and via the computer. Communicates in a positive manner.
Participates in the orientation and in the clinical experience of students.
Participates in Staff development and education.
Assumes personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Minimum high school education with advanced secretarial/medical training.
Minimum two years of secretarial experience in healthcare of customer-oriented service industry.
Computer skills are required, experience with Microsoft Office desirable.
Verbal and written skills necessary to effectively communicate with various members of the health care team, other health care facilities, community health related organizations and various external parties.
BLS required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust and temperature changes. Large part of work is sitting or walking.
Work week may exceed 40 hours and hours may vary depending on needs.
