Position Summary

The WIC Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy, providing nutrition assessment and counseling to clients, both in person and remotely, who meet the WIC High Risk criteria, and contributes to the development, implementation, and the evaluation of the nutrition education component for the WIC Program. This is a professional level position working under the direction of the WIC Program Supervisor. Work situations are varied and require dietetic expertise especially as it relates to women, infant and children, interpretation of information from a variety of sources, decision making within the scope of the position’s responsibility, and a service-oriented individual. This position requires discretion and good judgment in decision making. Internal contacts include WIC staff and management. External contacts include patients, families, physicians, and outside organizations and agencies.

Essential Functions

Knowledge of early child development and development of eating techniques

Knowledge of and skill in nutritional assessment especially as related to nutritionally high risk participants 

Knowledge of and skill in breastfeeding promotion and support

Skill in nutrition counseling

Ability to weigh and measure infants, children and women

Ability to perform capillary punctures to obtain hemoglobin results

Ability to complete scheduled appointments in allowed time

Skill in effective teaching techniques and mentoring other staff and interns

Ability to serve a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds

Ability to work independently, take initiative, and willingly accept responsibility

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics, nutrition, or foods and nutrition, Master’s preferred

Registered Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association and certified as an RD in the state of Washington

Have literacy and language skills appropriate to address the needs of diverse participants

Required to obtain a Medical Assistant-Registered license within 6 months of hire

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $34.46 - $49.60 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
