Summary

The Wound Care nursing supervisor is responsible for and provides overall supervision of the wound care service area patients in concert with additional leadership and interacts with the health system departments, medical staff and patient/families. Oversee and assist with scheduling nursing staff to specific shifts, taking into account past utilization trends. 



Manage and apply resources to general wound care operations, guided by experience, organizational goals and operational strategies. 

Job Description

Responsible for implementing the nursing process within Sanford and the continuum of care.  The nursing process is utilized to assess, diagnoses, establish a plan with outcome criteria, intervene, evaluate, and document human responses to actual or potential health problems. Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement and evaluate care of patients on wound care service. 

Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing, expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards for the wound care clinical setting. Responsible for the planning and coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, and various other nursing interventions. Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct. 

Expected to demonstrate leadership to employees, serving as a role model, and encouraging vision and changing projects. Understand the critical components associated and required to achieve intended results and ability to assist in hiring, selection, retaining, and leveraging talent across the wound care unit. Collaborate and provides feedback in measuring employee performance. Assist in coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary situations as needed. Assists in the training of new staff members and development of existing staff members. Practices positive collaboration and converts difficult interactions into productive ones. Expected to ensure department meets all regulatory requirements. 

Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization. Expected to assist in data monitoring, reports and improvements. Quality management will be demonstrated by assuring delivery of safe patient care through ensuring supplies and equipment are readily available for wound care patients. 

Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Will serve and/or chair departments/organizational committees and task forces as needed. May be asked to assist with other projects or work assignments as needed by organization, department and leadership. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health care administration or a related field required. Master’s degree in a related field preferred. 

Two years of experience in wound care setting preferred. Must have some knowledge in the following: clinical practices, pressure injuries, strategic planning, administrative, and/or financial principles. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Must maintain any certification or licensure as required.
