Nursing Services Supervisor ICU/PCU

Position Summary: Under the supervision and cooperation of the Director, the supervisor oversees the daily processes of the PCU/ICU nursing units to ensure that safe, evidence based care is provided. The supervisor contributes to the overall corporate objectives by providing leadership to the unit, assisting with financial management and maintaining policies. 

Responsibilities:

Provides positive leadership by an environment of teamwork, open communication and customer service. Responsible for human resources processes including interviewing and orientating staff, ongoing performance management and timekeeping/scheduling and required documentation. Assists with financial management by developing and maintaining budget, strives to keep operations within benchmarks and communicates variances. Ensures the compliance of policies and work instructions with regulatory standards to improve the overall operations of the facility. Maintains familiarity with all relevant emergency management policies and procedures; participates in drills and post-event debriefings and provides constructive input to improve the processes. Collaborates with the Director of Critical Care for overall operation of the ICU, PCU and care of patients. Assists with the maintenance schedules on equipment and ensures that equipment is safe for patients and personnel. Collects pertinent information related to potential education needs of the staff. Analyzes the assessment data to determine the learner needs. Identifies the general purpose and educational objectives that are measurable for each learning activity. Identifies and collaborates with content experts to develop activities to facilitate learners' achievement of the educational objectives. Provides staff education/coaching, serves as a preceptor and assists with all components of the RN Residency Program. Participates in and utilizes evidence based research for improving staff education activities, nursing practice and staff outcomes. Maintains accurate records of staff competencies by documentation and administration of e-learning modules. Make staffing assignments for start of shift and new admits. Manage the off-hours and weekend patient care activities. Respond to all emergency situations, assuring effective response. Respond to situations involving patients, unit, staff and visitors and provide a resolution.  Responsible for coordinating after hours procedures. Supervise staff, assess their needs and identify educational opportunities.

Qualifications:

Required:

Current Kansas Registered Nurse License Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Knowledge of general nursing and practice. Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Kansas or has work permit from the State Board of Nursing. BLS certification required or must complete with in the first two weeks of employment. ACLS Certification. Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) ENPC or PALS Triage experience

Preferred:

Certification in nursing administration CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) or appropriate specialty Related supervisory experience Masters degree 

Patient Interaction: Periodic

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position at Hays Medical Center based on the following criteria:
Primary – required (routine) to do the job;
Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and
None – no approved access
