UPMC Hamot is hiring a Nursing Assistant to join the team on our 4 North Transitional Support unit!

This position is Full-Time, with rotating day and night shifts. Occasional weekend and holiday coverage required.
Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Provides direct patient care under RN supervision, including all activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, transporting). Maintains a clean, safe, and organized environment to support patient recovery. Performs safety checks and ensures hallways and rooms are free of clutter and equipment is returned. Cleans department-specific equipment and changes bed linens. Acquires, distributes, and stocks supplies and equipment to support patient care. Delivers nourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes patient mail. Performs core nursing assistant duties: ADLs, blood glucose checks, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care, telemetry monitor application, and restraint management. Assists with intra-hospital patient transport (“ticket to ride”). Provides feedback to RNs and reports changes in patient condition. May apply, monitor, and remove restraints per protocol. Offers diversional activities to reduce or prevent restraint use. Responds appropriately to emergent situations within scope of role. Provides one-on-one companionship/supervision as needed. Documents care and observations in the medical record per policy. Completes clerical tasks as needed by the department. Complies with all safety and infection control policies, including standard precautions and bloodborne pathogen protocols. Communicates clearly and effectively with all healthcare team members. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and awareness of professional conduct issues. Supports a safe work environment for self and others. Accepts feedback constructively and seeks guidance when needed. Identifies learning needs and takes initiative to improve performance. Participates in self-review and performance evaluations. Suggests and supports departmental improvements and quality initiatives. Takes responsibility for assignments and contributes to team efficiency. Reports equipment malfunctions promptly. Participates in unit-wide tasks (e.g., answering call lights, phones, passing trays). Medication access is limited to distribution to nurses or transport between departments. Strictly adheres to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital related information. Responds within the scope of the nursing assistant role to emergent situations and provide companionship/supervision one on one with patients as required.
