Akron General’s Emergency Department is a Level I trauma center that offers the technology, expertise, and staffing to treat all injuries regardless of severity. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide or assist the RN with basic direct patient care, such as taking vitals and weights, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, application of external monitoring devices and removal of urinary Foley Catheters  

Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to the RN.  

Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean & orderly.  

Demonstrate a positive, concerned and sensitive response in the workplace.  

Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Nursing student in good standing in an accredited nursing school program OR an unlicensed graduate of an accredited nursing school program 

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

Satisfactory completion of hospital orientation 

Competencies specific to patient population served

Physical Requirements:

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force rarely, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
