Summary:
The Department of Surgery is seeking a Master’s-prepared Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team at Penn Presbyterian Hospital. This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work closely with plastic surgeons in delivering care across a broad scope of surgical services, including reconstructive surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, microsurgery, limb reconstruction, and aesthetic surgery.
The APP will serve as an integral member of the care team, collaborating closely with surgeons and managing patients both independently and alongside attending physicians. You will work closely with our residents and inpatient surgical teams as well. Clinical duties will include outpatient longitudinal care, perioperative care, and participation in procedure-based clinics. There will be an opportunity for surgical assisting with surgical experience a bonus but not required.
The APP will directly support a growing practice at a Level 1 trauma center. This would include the spectrum of patient care from outpatient elective hand surgery to complex microsurgical reconstruction of the upper extremity. Experience with routine fracture care would be a bonus but not required.
_This is a full-time position based at our primary surgical sites, with a schedule comprised of:_
- Collaborative clinic with attending physicians
- Independent APP clinic seeing pre, post operative patients and new consults.
- Procedure-based clinic (minor procedures, wound care, suture/staple removal, injections, upper extremity cast application and removal)
- Dedicated time for administrative and academic activity
Responsibilities:
+ Provides direct clinical care for patients according to established protocols and evidence-based standards in collaboration with the surgical team.
+ Conducts histories and physical examinations, orders and interprets tests and imaging, formulates diagnoses, and develops treatment plans.
+ First assists in the operating room when required.
+ Manages postoperative care including dressing changes, drain management, cast application and removal
+ Participates in multidisciplinary patient care rounds and coordinates care with therapy, nursing, and case management.
+ Educates patients and families regarding diagnosis, postoperative care, and long-term outcomes.
+ Documents all evaluations, procedures, and communications in the electronic health record in accordance with organizational standards.
+ Supports ongoing quality improvement and clinical research initiatives.
+ Precepts residents and students and contributes to academic and educational efforts as appropriate.
Credentials:
+ BLS/CPR certification as a healthcare provider per the American Heart Association.
+ Current PA and/or NJ CRNP licensure (for Nurse Practitioners) or PA-C certification and state licensure (for Physician Assistants)
+ Prescriptive authority in applicable state.
+ National board certification in the respective discipline.
+ RNFA required for Nurse Practitioners
Education or Equivalent Experience:
• Master’s Degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing or a graduate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
• New-to-practice or <2.5 years of experience will require review by the Credentials Committee and Medical Board.
