Department: 4th Floor – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, 2333 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI 48192
Schedule: 36 hours per week, every other weekend and holiday rotation
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3x12 hours shifts)
General Summary:
Must be enrolled in HFHS Department of Labor (DOL) approved apprenticeship program. Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN) and/or licensed clinician, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Provides input to assist the RN and/or licensed clinician in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. The Nurse Assistant Apprentice follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.
About our Unit:
Our 48-bed Progressive Care Unit is a fast-paced, dynamic environment — a great place for both new and experienced nurse aides to develop their skills. We care for patients with a wide variety of complex medical needs, including:
Cardiac monitoring (telemetry), cardiac drip administration, and pre/post heart catheterization
Trauma care for injuries such as fractured ribs
Orthopedic surgical care before and after surgery
Chest tube management and multiple surgical drains (Jackson Pratt, pleur-X, pig-tail, accordion systems)
High flow oxygen therapy, BiPAP, and AVAPS support
Stroke-certified care (NIHSS), seizure monitoring, and CIWA protocol for alcohol withdrawal
Care for conditions such as renal failure, congestive heart failure, COPD, and asthma
Education/Experience Required:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Must complete HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL), successfully pass all testing and/or exam, and complete all HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program competencies within the timeframe designated in the HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
Requires ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions.
Strong interpersonal and customer skills required in order to interact effectively with individuals from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Must be able to lift, carry, transfer and move clients if needed.
Certifications/Licensures Required:
Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during apprenticeship program. In Home Care department, requires valid Michigan driver's license and a dependable vehicle insured as required by the State of Michigan.
