Nuclear Chemist - Plant Vogtle 1&2
The Nuclear Chemist will report to the Chemistry Manager and will have the following responsibilities:
Develop and revise processes and procedures for areas under your responsibility. Pressurized water reactor chemistry areas include radioisotope Counting Room, diesel fuel oil, environmental, Primary/Secondary chemistry. Serve as the sampling system and lab instrumentation expert on selected systems, including trending, troubleshooting, and vendor interface Track and advocate for equipment repairs using the work management process Assist with Sample IQ data management applications Participate in training activities such as on-the-job training/evaluation of technicians, developing and delivering training material Maintain the Secondary, Closed, and Open Cooling Water, Primary to Secondary Leak Strategic Plans and subsequent revisions to ensure compliance with Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) guidelines Serve as a backup to other chemists as needed for the organization Prepare material and services purchase orders Serve as external vendor contract administrator and/or task director Participate in Corrective Action Program and coordinator duties Networking with industry groups and other fleet stations by performing benchmarks, self-assessments, and participating in technical support groups. Assist with varied roles that support successful planned and unplanned unit outages Qualify and participate in the Emergency Response Organization (ERO). Perform observations of activities within assigned areas of responsibility Complete other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
B.S. degree or higher in an applied science or physical science discipline Two years of experience in chemistry including one year of radiochemistry experience Two years nuclear plant experience desired
Job Preferences
B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemistry or related science Completion of a nuclear industry initial chemistry training course or equivalent Knowledge of nuclear plant systems and processes Working knowledge of EPRI, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), and industry chemistry programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Sound analytical chemistry skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Familiarity with the INPO Systematic Approach to Training (SAT)
