Purpose:
Stewards Individual Placements is an AmeriCorps Program which provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and protect our natural and cultural resources. Guilford Courthouse National Military Park protects 250 acres of the approximately 1,000 acres of the actual battlefield. Established in 1917, it is the country's first federally protected Revolutionary War battlefield. The purpose of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is to protect for historical and professional military study as well as the benefit, education, and inspiration of the public, the battlefield and the accounts of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse during the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution.
The Community and Youth Engagement Ambassador is an AmeriCorps Position which will serve as a member of the park's interpretation and education team. The AmeriCorps member will assist park staff in providing a range of services designed to foster meaningful connections to Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and its rich history. During the course of the internship, members will serve alongside experienced National Park Service employees supporting every facet of park operations such as leading informal interpretive activities in the park, delivering existing education programs to youth, and developing new programs for various audiences. The service member will also assist park staff with a large virtual volunteer program, supporting a cohort of over 600 citizen archivists, who transcribe the pension applications of veterans of the battle.

Description of Duties:
As an AmeriCorps Member serving with the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro, NC, your responsibilities will include:
Deliver existing education programs in schools and in the park.Join the Citizen Archivist Coordination team to manage a large program of virtual volunteers.Develop a new education program that meets state curriculum standards and fits with the park's culture of hands-on, fun learning experiences.Offer informal interpretive activities for guests.Assist with the management of a virtual volunteer project, responding to emailed questions, tracking volunteer assignments, and hosting orientation calls.Deliver existing interpretive programs and develop new ones to be used in the park and/or offsite for outreach events.Orient guests to the resources and stories of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.
Qualifications:
United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien. Between the ages of 18 – 30, or up to age 35 with Veteran status. Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award.Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check. Must have a valid Driver’s License. Bachelor's degree.Self-starter.Passionate.Youth friendly.Service oriented.Experience interacting with the public, volunteers, and youth is preferred.Strong guest service skills and social media content creation are desired.

Time Requirements:
Typically, this position is expected to serve 40 hours a week Tuesday to Saturday, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps serviceThe member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.The member will serve fully in person on site.
Orientation and Training:
The member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.The member will shadow and complete all existing interpretive activities with the support of park staff.The member will attend a staff facilitated Microsoft Teams orientation call for citizen archivists and utilize online training resources to learn the administration behind the program.Additional training opportunities will include how to develop interpretive programming, career support through networking and interview coaching, and how to develop educational programs that meet North Carolina state curriculum standards.The member will have the ability to utilize volunteer management training available through the Southeast region of the National Park Service

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
