NPD Mechanical Engineer

Overview
The NPD Mechanical Engineer is responsible for driving the development of new platforms and/or projects, as well as collaborating with R&D during the early stages of the NPD process, focusing on tooling and equipment to ensure a smooth introduction to the assembly production line.
 

Experience and Education

University degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or similar).Experience in tooling and equipment design in assembly line environments (4 or more years).Experience in new equipment development and introduction (SOW, conception, procurement, validation, and implementation).Experience in the New Product Development process (stages and deliverables) is a plus.
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Certifications

Bilingual (90% English and Spanish), both oral and written.Advanced computer-aided design skills using CATIA (other design software may be considered).Basic knowledge of automation, vision systems, and PLCs.Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stackup.Problem-solving skills.Knowledge of Project Management.Basic knowledge of SAP.Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies.Soft skills (communication, negotiation, responsibility, analysis, optimism, creativity, teamwork, change management).Values ​​aligned with the company.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
 

Translate manufacturing needs (Health and Safety, Quality, and Productivity) into specific requirements for R&D during the new product development process.Collaborate with the NPD Industrial Engineer to define the assembly sequence for new projects.Liaise between R&D and the manufacturing site.Lead design reviews with R&D, evaluating new platforms and changes to avoid turbulence during introduction.Consider key manufacturing costs to reduce the product's unit cost during the development phase of new projects.Design, manufacture, and validate tools and equipment for pilot and prototype runs, considering Health & Safety, Quality, and Productivity improvements, and maintain constantcommunication with other departments.Evaluate critical failure modes from the PFMEA and develop the required Poka Yokes (product, process, equipment, or technological).Evaluate new projects to define the list of necessary tools and equipment.Collaborate during the early stages of business cases for new projects to define the required investment for tools and equipment.Support the local team during NPD events.Support the local Mechanical Engineering team with the development and implementation of complex equipment.Participate in compliance with the QMS (Quality Management System) determined for their role in relation to ISO 9001:2015.Comply with safety regulations determined according to their role. Complete planned Quality and Training-related training on time.Identify and report any quality and compliance issues, as well as support corrective actions.Any other activities or responsibilities assigned by your supervisor.
