JOB DESCRIPTION
Manufacturing Operator
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:Run 16 Carrier braiders; train to run the strander.Operates braiders to provide a braided covering over Draka pair conductorsSelects gearing needed by using chart and written instructionsLoads carriage with proper supply; thread ends of supplies through closing dieLoads core in payoff and threads through carrier, picking up ends of braid suppliesTapes ends to core and attaches core to take-up reelStarts machine and monitors run timeReplaces spools of thread as necessaryHolds end and starts machineRuns machine until end is firmly meshed in braid; stops machine, cuts out excess (old & new) and smoothsAcquires an understanding of the mechanics of the braiders so as to be able to repair the equipment in most instances except a major breakdownMaintains housekeeping chores in immediate areaKeeps machinery clean, and keeps moving surfaces lubricatedPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:Exceptional color perception. Good physical condition.Strength required to apply up to 100 lbs. of forceAbility to work to 1/10,000 inch tolerance.High school education or equivalent. Reading, writing, simple math are included in job responsibilities.Initiative required in adjusting quality during the process and using run time for completion of paperwork and housekeeping duties. Understanding, communication and adherence to schedule needs (including Kanban) are critical.EQUIPMENT USED:16 Carrier Braider, with counters, chainhoists, payoffs and takeups. Reels wooden or metal, in various sizes. Pliers (needle-nose), wire cutters, scissors, various hand tools, micrometers. Housekeeping equipment.
