THE NIGHT SUPERINTENDENT OPPOURTUNITY

Canadian Turner Construction’s Vancouver office is seeking a full-time Night Superintendent. This salaried role requires availability to work on-site during evening or night hours from Monday to Friday with occasional weekend coverage. The Night Superintendent reports to either the Project Superintendent, Senior/Project Manager, or Project Executive. In this role, you will lead, oversee, direct, and coordinate construction field activities and performance of subcontractors and Turner Self-Perform Operations (SPO) staff for specific area or for small project in absence of Project Superintendent, as well as, ensure adherence to safety, schedule delivery, quality of work performed, and budget.

 

As a Night Superintendent you will:

Oversee and make decisions related to project activities in compliance with approved contract documents, scheduling, logistics, quality control, field operations, and WIP and subcontractors and Turner Self-Perform Operations (SPO) staffing levels, provide technical and jobsite planning guidanceManage and align General Requirements and General Conditions (GR/GC) within project budgetManage project mock-ups and oversee associated testing, review, and approval as applicableEnsure acquisition of required project permits and insurance, keep current for term of project, and serve as liaison with inspection agenciesOversee work among assigned trades to promote coordinated project operationsEstablish and maintain relationships with subcontractors’ Trade staffResolve local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, equipment schedule, and other related mattersDevelop and manage jobsite safety program in collaboration with EH&S team and ensure subcontractor compliance with Turner standards and safety codes and regulationsCreate and communicate schedules and determine sequencing of work to project stakeholders and staffIdentify schedule risks and develop, communicate, and implement recovery strategies to maintain project scheduleIdentify, investigate, manage, and resolve field issues and communicate with relevant project stakeholders, escalate to project leadership as neededManage and verify billing process for Work In Place (WIP) and oversee monthly estimate of work completed, payrolls, material invoices, and subcontractor payment applicationsManage work performed to ensure installation in compliance and conformity to approved contract documentsApply basic continuous improvement concepts and practices to work efficiently, enhance programs, coordinate and reduce wasteMay supervise team of Superintendent employees, may oversee Field Engineers and Interns, and participate in hiring process, onboard and deliver timely performance feedback for direct reports, execute/contribute to performance appraisals during annual performance cycle, utilize talent management systems, and identify appropriate training to help with development needsOther duties, actions, and responsibilities as assigned

 

Is this the right role for you:

A construction-related degree, diploma, Red Seal certification, and a minimum of five years of relevant construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Working knowledge of construction engineering principles and techniques, field supervision, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications and basic understanding of construction accounting proceduresKnowledgeable of building construction materials, systems, market conditions, trade practicesAbility to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project scheduleAble to work with minimal information and quickly develop understanding of project requirementsApply critical thinking to make sound decisionsProject management of competing demands and meet established deadlinesAble to build relationships across project to facilitate work productivityProfessional verbal and written communication skillsFamiliar with continuous improvement methodologiesSupervisory and management experienceProficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applicationsLimited travel

The annual base salary range for this position may be CA$80,000 to CA$115,000, depending on experience and fit. Physical Demands & Work Environments:

The job requires climbing stairs, using hoists and ladders, and navigating construction areas. Employees will frequently sit, climb, stoop, kneel, use tools, and work with computers. Vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The role involves mobility, occasional travel, and work at various sites. Employees must lift up to 10 pounds regularly and 25 pounds occasionally. Work environments include construction sites with exposure to hazards like mechanical parts, heights, fumes, and noise. Employees must follow safety policies, with accommodations available for disabilities.
