POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs selected skills: including rooming patient, pre-placement physicals, substance of abuse testing, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep screens, cultures, workers’ compensation injury/ illness assisting with treatments and procedures, phlebotomy, walk in emergency assessment, monitoring, AED use, surveillance, compliance post exposure management and/or monitoring including documenting complete and accurate information specific to department. Participates in continuous quality improvement and educational support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives. 

AGE SPECIFIC CARE:

Provides age and culturally appropriate assessment/screening.

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Graduate of an accredited Associate degree or Medical Assistant program or a minimum of 5 years experience in addition to military training.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Effective September 16, 2016, RMA, AAMA, CCMA or NCCT certification is required upon hire.  Bi-Annual CPR certification required.  Active RMA, AAMA, CCMA or NCCT certification must be maintained.

Prior to September 16, 2016, AAMA certification is required upon hire or verification of a passing score on the AAMA certification exam and subsequent AAMA certification obtained within 90 days of hire.  Bi-Annual CPR certification required.  Active AAMA certification must be maintained.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

At least one year of professional experience in a clinic setting preferred.  Good interpersonal, organizational and critical decision-making skills required.  Ability to clearly and calmly communicate in English both verbally and in writing with patients, medical staff and the public.  Computer experience required.  Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepares patients for examination, treatment and procedures.  Performs selected patient care duties which include recording patient histories, vital signs, EKG’s, medication reconciliation, specimen collections. Under the authority and delegation of a physician may perform certain other tasks or duties. Alerts provider/nurse of emergent patient needs. Replenishes and prepares exam and treatment rooms with medical supplies, instruments, equipment, maintaining neat, clean and appropriately stocked environment. Cleans and disinfects all exam rooms, instruments and procedure trays operating sterilization equipment and following established department guidelines and infection control guidelines.  Helps maintain the Epic in baskets and work lists including normal test results, referrals, overdue results and patient calls. Assists with scheduling of patient appointments, test, diagnostic testing.  Assists with clerical/receptions support functions as assigned. Accurately enters faxed prescription refill into the EMR. Abstracts pertinent patient medical history in a timely manner. Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts. Cross trained to assist with the training of new staff.
