Job Summary The Certified Medical Assistant – Virtual will function in a virtual care center setting and is part of a remote care team which collaborates with physicians, mid-level providers, staff, and other health care professionals to provide the best care across the health care continuum. They will coordinate and assist the provider to ensure safe quality/cost effective service and care for the people within the practice population. This role serves as an integral member of the health care team who works to ensure safety, best practice and high-quality standards of care are maintained across the continuum. Responsibilities Patient Care: Ensure patient chart is complete. Interview patient to identify current medical needs and relevant patient history. Immunizations: Ability to reconcile immunization history in EMR. Ability to review immunization record and identify potential risk and side effects of immunization (s) ordered. Data Collection/Referrals: Code nursing visits, lab requests and procedures for billing. Verify and update patient data. Collect data from patient/family to ensure accuracy in EMR. Clerical Duties: Assists with registration, scheduling and check-out as indicated. Greets and welcomes patient telephonically. Verifies and corrects patient demographics and updates medical insurance or payment sources. Supports other duties related to front desk and scheduling. Patient Education: Reinforce patient education under the direction of the clinician. Identify risk factors and chronic health problems. Report individual data to patient. Reinforces clinician education regarding patient/family self-care management. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Must be a graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program that includes an externship in a clinical setting; Medical Assistant curriculum must include pharmacology and medication. A fully online medical assistant program for the entire curriculum is not approved. Certification/registry must be obtained by the last day of the sixth month of hire, and education agreement signed. Certification/registration accepted: CMA with the American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), CCMA with the National Health Career Association (NHA), RMA with the American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (NHCWA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) and RMA with the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA). Alternative Work Experience (for eligibility to take NHA, ARMA, NHCWA, NCCT, NAHP or AMT exams, if not already certified or registered on hire): Applicant shall be employed as a supervised medical assistant for a minimum of one (1) year (NHA or NHCWA) within the last three (3) years, for a minimum of two (2) years (NCCT, NAHP), for a minimum of three (3) years (ARMA), for a minimum of five (5) years (AMT) of the last 7 years (with no more than 2 of those years as an instructor in a post-secondary medical assistant program). Or a graduate of an Accredited School of Professional Nursing. Experience must include both clinical (including medication administration) and administrative duties. Experience: Clinical experience in ambulatory setting, required. Licensure/Certification: Current certification as CMA, RMA, or CCMA, required. Additional Skills (required): Appropriate customer service, effective and appropriate customer relations, verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and computer literacy. Ability to successfully complete generic and department specific skills validation and competency testing. Has the ability to interpret information and identify each patient’s requirement for care relative to his/her age specific need. Has the knowledge and skill necessary to modify care according to patient(s) age. Ability to successfully complete generic and department specific skills validation and competency testing.
