Position Title Newspaper Delivery Worker Student Status Work Study Optional –You are not required to be a Federal Work Study Recipient to hold this position. Work Location Springfield Campus Department Communication, Media, Journalism & Film Hiring Range $15.00 per hour Sponsorship Information Applicants must be currently authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States on a full-time basis. This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship. Department/Employer Operating Hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F How many hours per week are required? It varies throughout the month Description of Primary Duties The Standard publishes a print issue once per month. The newspaper delivery worker will do the following tasks each time an issue is published: Use a minivan from the university motor pool to deliver copies of The Standard to all buildings on the MSU campus (both the main campus and the downtown buildings). Use a personal vehicle to deliver newspapers to select off-campus locations. (Mileage will be reimbursed.) On foot using a cart, deliver newspapers to fraternity and sorority houses along Elm and Cherry streets.


The on-campus distribution will always occur on Wednesday mornings, so the worker must have a clear schedule before noon. Delivery days/times for the off-campus and fraternity/sorority locations are flexible. The on-campus distribution will take place on Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 5, Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 25 and April 22.

The worker will load the papers into a university minivan and deliver specified quantities to designated locations. Lists and a route will be provided. On-campus distribution typically takes about four to five hours. Distribution to off-campus and fraternity/sorority locations usually takes about two hours total.

Hours may sometimes be available to perform other miscellaneous tasks for The Standard throughout the month. Required Qualifications Must have a valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle. Must have knowledge of the MSU campus and the surrounding area. The job involves walking and carrying bundles of newspapers. Must be available to work on Wednesday mornings. Students enrolled in Wednesday morning classes will not be considered. Required Certifications Additional Qualifications Previous work experience preferred.
