Role Summary:
New Product Development (NPD) Engineers are responsible for providing engineering support on all aspects of new product development efforts; concept development, virtual testing using FEA, physical test planning, design standardization, and working with a cross-functional team to deliver industry leading products.
Work hours: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.
Location: Kalamazoo, MI.
Responsibilities:
Work within project teams to design and produce new industry-leading products within the Mixer and Specialty Seals - Pump Seals product portfolios. These efforts include:
Develop and implement project schedules for product development phases
Develop conceptual designs and prototypes
Conduct design analysis calculations to support seal design efforts including use of FEA, self-developed computer algorithms, and hand calculations
Develop and implement test programs
Document product development design capabilities with product line engineering standards, and application guidelines
Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery
Through adherence to engineering standards and processes, ensure quality, reliability, and market competitiveness in all product designs and their application
Foster the creation and growth of technical capabilities through third-party organizations and research institutions (i.e. universities, private research organizations, government laboratories, etc.).
Author technical documents that capture design development decisions, product design analysis’, laboratory testing, and field-testing programs.
Maintain broad mechanical engineering skills and knowledge of state-of-the-art technical and industry trends through review of technical publications, participation in technical conferences, interfacing with external technical resources, and participation in internal and external training opportunities.
Support new product lines while becoming a subject matter expert and leader in new technologies. Partner with Engineering, Operations, Sales, Quality Assurance and other stakeholders as necessary to provide customer centric and highly responsive support to resolve product performance issues in the field.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree
Industrial experience 5+ years within the rotating equipment industry or in a related field
Preferred Experience / Skills:
Knowledge and understanding of 2D and 3D drafting and modeling with preference for SolidWorks experience
Experience with Ansys
Greenbelt, Blackbelt or Lean CIP training experience
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to apply technology to creatively solve problems meeting business and stakeholder needs
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to apply engineering analysis tools including FEA
Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
Ability to work without close supervision completing high quality assignments on time
