This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

Our Boston, Massachusetts office is seeking New Grad Engineers interested in Transportation for Summer 2026 in our: Roadway, Traffic, and Stormwater/Utilities departments.

As an Entry-Level engineer within our Roadway department, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of highway and roadway projects. These projects can range from small intersection and multimodal corridor improvement projects to large interchanges, multimodal improvements, bridge reconstruction projects and/or design-build projects. Working closely with experienced design engineers, you will be involved in all aspects of the design process, from concept development to final construction plans.

As an Entry-Level engineer within our Traffic department, you will play a vital role in analyzing, designing, and optimizing transportation systems. You will work closely with mid and senior traffic engineers and a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions that enhance traffic flow, promote safety, and improve the overall performance of transportation networks.

As an Entry-Level engineer within our Stormwater and Utilities department, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of stormwater management and utility projects. Working closely with experienced design engineers, you will play a key role in designing effective and sustainable systems that mitigate flooding, manage stormwater runoff, and enhance the efficiency of utility networks.

What You'll Do:

Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

What You'll Bring:

Exhibits an understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline.Attains knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with MicroStation and/or AutoCad or other software.Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to team members and stakeholders.

What We Prefer:

Master's degree in Civil EngineeringEngineer in Training (EIT) certificationKnowledgeable in MicroStation and/or AutoCADStrong interest in transportation and infrastructureInternship or co-op experience in transportation or related field is desirable
