Neurology PA: Per Diem for Research Lumbar Punctures

We are looking for a procedural PA interested in performing 2-3 research lumbar punctures per week in our movement disorders clinic. This is a per diem position that would require approximately 2 shifts/month. Flexible hours with a per diem rate of $93.50 per hour.


 

Job Summary

Summary
The procedural physician assistant will work in a per diem role performing 1-2 research lumbar punctures per week for the neurology movement disorders clinic. The hours are flexible.

The purpose of our research is to discover and validate biomarkers and genetic predictors for neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease, frontotemporal dementia, and others. We intend to collect blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), skin, nasopharyngeal swab, and saliva samples, alongside detailed clinical data from patients with neurodegenerative diseases and controls. Samples, including CSF, will be de-identified and banked and may be shared with approved academic, industry, and NIH partners under strict agreements with the overall goal of improving diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disease.


Essential Functions:
Performs complete histories and physical examinations.

Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.

Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.

Performs lumbar punctures.

Qualifications

Education

Master's Degree Physician Assistant required

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials

Physician Assistant MA state license required

Experience

Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to maintain quality control standards.

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
