The role youll contribute:
The Neuroscience Genetic Counselor will provide patients (adult and pediatric ages) and their families with data about the risks of genetically inherited conditions. The counselor will also offer education and counseling to patients and their families regarding the value, risk and benefit of genetic counseling. These patients will derive primarily from our Neuroscience outpatient programs to include but not limited to: Neuromuscular, Neuroimmunology, Movement Disorders, Memory Disorders and Headache. The Neuroscience Genetic Counselor will be working closely with the Neuroscience program Medical Directors to conduct outpatient visits, implement testing strategies, provide genetic counseling, discuss test results and assist in the coordination of necessary ancillary or consultative services. The Neuroscience Genetic Counselor also serves as a resource for patients, physicians and allied health professionals, serving in the role of educator and consultant to referred patients.

Collect and analyze family pedigree and patient histories regarding potential genetic diseases.
Perform genetic risk calculations and educate families about potential health risks.
Provide patients and their families with genetic testing and interpret the results.
Develop, plan and implement evidenced-base strategies that increase the quality of care for pediatric and adult patients and ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
