The Network Engineer engages with customers around the globe on new installs, provides incident management to troubleshoot problems, and recommends and implements improvements in our network environment. Network Engineers also lead in the evaluation, installation, and support of network communications equipment, including switches, routers, firewalls, and application delivery controllers/load balancers. In addition, the Network Engineer is responsible for testing and evaluating network systems to troubleshoot problems and recommend and implement improvements in our network environment. The Network Engineer manages and coordinates carrier maintenance.
Responsibilities:
● Configure, install, support and maintain customer infrastructure (20%)
● Support, and maintain the network hardware and software infrastructure, including routers, firewalls, switches and load balancers. (20%)
● Identify, analyze, and resolve faults ranging from major network outages to customer escalations. (20%)
● Routine preventative measures such as network monitoring, security, upgrades and maintenance. (20%)
● Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks.
● Email, DNS, DHCP and network monitoring such as fault reporting, traffic analysis and data collection with SNMP.
● Participate in 24/7 department on-call rotation, with some after hours and weekend work expected.
Key Skills, Requirements and Competencies:
● Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science/other technical field or five to ten (5-10) years of experience in lieu of degree - required
● Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a mixed vendor 'mission critical' environment –with customer support experience preferred and track record of delivering complex projects with little supervision - required
● Network technologies and protocols including HSRP, VLANs, Spanning Tree, VPN’s, MPLS, BGP, IS-IS and OSPF
● Network monitoring technologies and SNMP management (Nagios, Cacti, Observium, Syslog, Solarwinds etc.)
● CCNA, CCNP or equivalent certifications preferred
● Complex carrier/datacenter network environment
● A thorough working knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, Access Control Lists, IP
Addressing/Subnetting, and LAN technologies
● Network technologies and protocols including HSRP, VLANs, Spanning Tree, VPN’s, MPLS, BGP, IS-IS and OSPF
● Network monitoring technologies and SNMP management (Nagios, Syslog, Solarwinds etc.)
● VMware, Windows, and Linux
