Network Engineer
6 month contract to hire
Onsite in Lansing, MI
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Network Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise network systems. This hands-on role involves working both in the field and onsite to implement and support network hardware, software, and connectivity solutions that align with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Deploy, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems Apply firmware/software patches and hardware updates to resolve network issues and ensure system integrity Participate in planning and designing network architecture, including topology, hardware/software integration, and signal protocols Monitor performance, tune systems, and recommend optimizations for reliability and efficiency Perform capacity planning, risk assessments, and contingency planning Maintain technical documentation such as network diagrams, configuration standards, and backup procedures Support configuration and patching for VDI environments and Microsoft technologies (e.g., Active Directory, Windows Server, Exchange) Create and maintain job aids and technical documentation to support knowledge transfer and onboarding Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal training efforts Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and routing issues including traffic filtering and scripting Evaluate and integrate new tools and services into the network management ecosystemRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field - or equivalent experienceHands-on experience with:
VDI patching/upgrades and paired image management VMware environment patching and maintenance Microsoft SQL Server (installations, upgrades, clustering) Active Directory in test/dev/prod environments Microsoft Exchange (on-premises) Windows Server deployment and management Azure Government Cloud (preferred) Strong understanding of network protocols, systems tuning, and fault resolution Valid Michigan driver's license (required for local travel)Preferred Certifications:
