We are seeking qualified Network Engineers to join our team serving the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, NY. The role is onsite at USMA.\n
\n

The selected candidate will support the USMA Networking Service Branch's mission and strategic direction by providing knowledge, techniques, and expertise in configuring and administering a Cisco Networking environment across the USMA campus.\n
\n

Target Salary Range: $85,000-$95,000\n

Job Description:\n

Overview: Under general supervision, the Network Engineer will be responsible for the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and operation of USMA's local area network (LAN). This is a critical role tasked with managing network performance and ensuring the security of network infrastructure.\n
\n

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: \n
\n\nProvide Tier 1 to Tier 3 support for network infrastructure, including switching, routing, security, and related technologies.\n\n\nSupport virtualized or cloud platforms and virtual environments, addressing escalated support issues as they arise.\n\n\nCollaborate with network and systems vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, VMware, Dell, and EMC to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.\n\n\nManage and apply patches to network and virtual components to ensure optimal performance and security.\n\n\nDesign, build, configure, manage, document, and maintain virtual environments to meet organizational requirements.\n\n\nMaintain fluency in Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) principles, tenants, and concepts, obtaining certification as necessary.\n\n\nMonitor network performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance overall network efficiency.\n\n\nCollaboration with other USMA and OTS functions (Cyber, IT support, Enterprise Services, etc.) to resolve network related issues. The nature of the position involves actively participating in multiple working groups and disseminating information across all levels of the organization.\n\n

Additional duties may include:\n\nInstallation\/Replacement\/Management of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) devices.\n\n

Minimum Qualifications:\n\nMinimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in enterprise network engineering and administration.\n\n\nMust hold and maintain all required DoD8140 certifications for advanced-level work roles.\n\n\nProficient in network infrastructure technologies and best practices.\n\n\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly in network environments.\n\n\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members and vendors.\n\n\nAbility to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.\n\n\nFamiliarity with virtualized environments and cloud platforms is a plus.\n\n\nAbility to analyze complex network issues and provide clear, actionable recommendations to improve network performance and security.\n\n\nExperience in incident response, including the ability to identify, analyze, and respond to security incidents effectively and efficiently.\n\n

Preferred Qualifications:\n\nAdvanced Certifications: Possession of advanced networking and security certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) is highly preferred, demonstrating a deeper level of expertise in network security and infrastructure.\n\n\nExperience with Network Security Frameworks: Proven experience with security frameworks and standards such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001, and DoD RMF (Risk Management Framework) to ensure compliance and best practices in network security management.\n\n\nProficiency in Network Management Tools: Familiarity with advanced network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, Nagios) for traffic analysis and performance optimization.\n\n\nHands-on Experience with Firewall and IDS\/IPS Technologies: Demonstrated experience in configuring and managing firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and intrusion prevention systems (IPS) to enhance network security.\n\n\nKnowledge of Cloud Security: Understanding of security protocols and practices related to cloud services and architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure) that support organizational operations.\n\n
