Network Development Engineer, Backbone/Interconnect Technical Operations
Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated and technically savvy Network Development Engineer to help develop and scale one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. We develop new and innovative ways to scale and expand our network, whilst delivering operational excellence to our customers.

This opportunity sits within our Backbone Network Development organization where the team is responsible for planning, developing and acquiring the network that drives Amazon’s internal infrastructure as well as connecting Amazon to the rest of the world.

As a technical leader, he/she will manage complex stakeholder relationships, both technical and commercial. A love for working with new technologies and pushing the envelope on existing technology is essential!

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Key job responsibilities
•Provide critical network operations support to internal customers, dive deep into circuit performance to identify and troubleshoot chronic problems such as active and passive L1/WDM related issues, latency spikes, interconnectivity issues and BGP routing.
•Conduct data acquisition and to support service assurance and performance management of the services provided by the suppliers.
•Develop mechanisms to automatically engage suppliers for chronic circuits.
•Develop mechanisms to track RFO’s for chronic circuits ensuring we don’t have repeat offenders and drive service improvement plans where appropriate.
•Deliver a solution to maintain carrier escalation matrices and up-to-date contact details.
•Influence carriers and work closely with them to open and adapt their ticketing system APIs to AWS requirements (ticketing and maintenance notifications).
•Build an effective process for working with the backbone business development team, the backbone provisioning team and the network operations team to ensure services are delivered and maintained per technical specifications and service level agreements.
•Create and review documentation and processes regarding recurring operational issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
•Identify and drive opportunities to automate repeatable networking tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools.
•Deliver availability, latency and utilization reports of the backbone network on a regular cadence.
