The National Carrier manager is responsible for administering and managing the logistics providers for the PFG enterprise for domestic and international shipments. Managing transportation providers to ensure timely delivery for contract carrier managed and backhaul shipments within budget goals. This position enlists and qualifies various transportation entities, monitors their performance, provides settlement, claims management, monitors accessorial charges, pallet fees and related programs such as DOE fuel index.  Will function as a team member within the department and will have responsibility for a number of Operating Company logistics operations. This will include the coordination of functions between OpCos and across business segments. Travel and use of Transportation Management Systems for freight bids will be required.  Project management, resource planning, budget, performance analysis, and OpCo performance tracking are important functions of the role.  Assistance to other areas of the team will often be required.  This position is cross segment in scope and may collaborate to coordinate loads and resources across both OpCos and business segments.  Perform other duties assigned to best serve the company. 

Position Responsibilities:Conducts network models detailed cost analyses to determine the most economical transportation methods across internal and external resources, including LTL (Less-than-Truckload), intermodal, and boxcar.  Partners with Regional Logistics Managers to provide a strategic network plan utilizing the internal fleet and external resources.Works to maintain effective and efficient service for the centralized managed team, individual OpCos and measures performance against those goals using various KPI’s.  Identifies and implements backhaul opportunities to utilize company fleet assets effectively, reducing empty miles and maximizing cost savings.Analyzes purchasing cycles to build consolidated loads, aligning with demand planning to enhance freight efficiency and increase revenue through optimal load builds.Negotiates contract rates and service conditions with carriers, balancing service reliability with cost-effectiveness.Partners with internal stakeholders, including operations, transportation, and procurement teams, to drive efficiency, service improvements, and cost control across the supply chain.  Coordinates with corporate and Opco logistics teams across the organization to uncover collaborative logistics opportunities and leverage synergies. Maintains accurate and up-to-date data within the Transportation Management System (TMS) to ensure visibility, performance tracking, and informed decision-making.  Maintains and improves relationships with the service providers, carriers and stakeholders.  Performs other related duties as assigned. Additional Comments:
This position is a very dynamic position with a wide range of activities and responsibilities.  It is both tactical or transaction oriented and strategical or planning oriented.  Flexibility is key along with managing relationships with many functional areas and customers and understanding the needs of each and how they related to the mission of the department and company.  As this position will have extensive travel requirements, time management and the ability to multi-task while remaining mobile is an important trait and skill.
