\nJob Summary
\nThe Multispecialty Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient's clinical history to identify the examination's purpose. It frames the clinical questions the examination aims to answer and expands the examination as needed.
\nEssential Functions of the Role
\n\nPerforms various specialty ultrasound procedures using different equipment and techniques. Makes necessary measurements for accurate and high-quality interpretation results.\nIdentifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extends the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.\nMay assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies. This aids in complex procedures and decreases risk factors.\nPrepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Adapts imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.\nImaging team members must follow policies, procedures, and workflows. These include PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and BioMed services.\nRecords statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.\nActs as a resource to team members, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.\nWorks closely with ultrasound team members to ensure quality processes and follow protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.\nImplements protocols as new technology evolves, ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.\nAssures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer’s recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.\n\nKey Success Factors
\n\nMust be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.\nMust meet all qualifications for any two of these specialties: Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work at least 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are separate specialties by certification.\nKnowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation, and techniques.\nKnowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.\nKnowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.\nKnowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.\nAbility to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians, and nurses.\nSkilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment.\nAble to serve as trainer by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.\nAble to take call, if required.\n\nBelonging Statement

Fetal Echocardiography (FE)/Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK)/Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)/Reg Dig Card Son-Adult Echo (RDCS-AE)/Ped.Echocardiography (PE) (RDCS-PE)/Reg Diag Medical Sonographer (RDMS)/Reg Diag Med Sono-Abdomen (AB) (RDMS-AB)/Reg Diag Med Sono-Breast (BR) (RDMS-BR)/Reg Diag Med Sono-OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS-OB)/RDMS-Pediatric Sonography (PS) (RDMS-PS)/Registered Vascular Tech (RVT)ARDMS in (AB) or (OB) or RVT (ARDMS): Must have 2 years of related Multispecialty Experience andMust have TWO of the following in separate specialties:
ARDMS – RDMS: AB, BR, OB/GYN, PS/ARDMS – RDCS: AE, FE, PE/ARDMS – RVT/ARDSM – RMSKS/ARRT – S, VS, BS.Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
