Purpose

The Multimedia Producer creates dynamic video, animation, and digital media content that enhances the university’s storytelling, brand visibility, and audience engagement. This position collaborates with various departments to produce visually compelling materials that highlight the university’s mission, academic programs, research, and campus life. By leveraging creative media production and innovative design, this role is key in communicating the university’s values to various audiences.

General Notes

Responsibilities

Collaboration: Meets with Director of Multimedia regularly to discuss current assignments and to present new ideas for video projects.

Communication: Presents work effectively to team partners. Ensures work is on target, on time and on budget. Provides weekly updates to manager.   

Operations:  In advance of video productions, works with assigned project manager to coordinate production locations and schedules. Ensures proper operation of equipment required and tests all production related equipment. Keep abreast of the latest technologies in filming, video editing, sound design, and distribution mediums and platforms.

Post-Production: Edits single and multi-camera recorded video and audio segments into a completed technically and aesthetically effective presentations. Works with brand manager and creative team to ensure brand consistency. Upon approval, ensures completed videos are uploaded to the appropriate CMS and made available for distribution. Archives completed projects.

Video Development and Pre-production: Work with manager to develop new and creative ways to translate academic material into multimedia stories online, and leverage visual storytelling to attract targeted audiences. Works closely with the assigned project manager through all phases of each project, to obtain client input, to solve problems, and to keep projects on schedule. Estimated production schedule is 3-5+ video pieces per month.

Video Production: Shoots productions ranging from single-camera productions to multi-camera field and studio productions. This includes interacting with and guiding clients, subjects/talent and others through the production process. Operates and/or directs the operation of professional cameras, audio equipment, lighting equipment and related equipment to effectively create a variety of video types.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with three years of professional experience with various forms of media, including video and still photography, video and audio editing, graphic arts and animation, scriptwriting and interactive media. 

Comprehensive understanding of the technical and creative aspects of the pre-production, production and post-production processes. 

Demonstrated experience interviewing people and skill in structuring story lines that are engaging and lively. 

Expert knowledge and skill as a DV, HD and DSLR video camera operator, with experience shooting with multiple cameras and formats. 

Ability to meet editorial deadlines and juggle multiple deadlines at once. 

Demonstrated skill in visualizing and shooting concepts effectively. 

Proficient in lighting.

Advanced experience with Creative Cloud, Adobe Premier and After Effects. 

Intermediate experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Docs and/or Sheets.

Experience with professional live streaming equipment. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications or related field.

Knowledge of The University of Texas’ brand, organization and creative community.

Experience as a photojournalist, multimedia journalist or multimedia producer for online media projects. 

Experience in editorial decision making within a journalistic or content marketing organization. 

Experience producing short form documentaries. 

Familiarity with project management systems.

Experience filming projects via Zoom is a plus.

Demonstrated experience with multiple production formats, including vertical, square and 360 video as well as possess an ability to learn and adapt to new trends, technologies and publishing specs. 

Fluency in motion graphics and basic animation. 

Knowledge of digital media concepts.

Salary Range

$68,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Able to lift, roll or carry equipment. May work in all weather conditions. May work around electrical and mechanical hazards. May travel. May work extended hours during events. Nights and weekends may be required during peak periods. Typical office environment.
