Description of Work Unit
The School of Social Work at Colorado State University ( CSU ) is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences ( CHHS ). We offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in social work, along with a dual master’s degree in social work and public health and multiple graduate certificates. Position Summary
This position will function as a student-facing advisor. It is a 12-month administrative professional role (AP), requiring an MSW degree. The advisor applies expertise about the social work profession, the broader community, and the academic program at CSU to support prospective and current students throughout their pre-program and program experiences. The advisor will ensure that student learning outcomes are met in alignment with accreditation standards. The advisor also supports the School of Social Work team as a whole, including specific program team support. The advisor must be skilled in working with students and community members who hold varied and intersecting identities, including diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, first generation students, international students, students with DACA status, students who speak multiple languages, students who are LGBTQIA+, and others. As practice-based (internship) and classroom learning experiences are of equal importance according to our accrediting body, this position will work across both types of experience. Distribution of duties will vary based on the specific program(s) the advisor supports. This role requires some schedule flexibility, which may include occasional weekend commitments, and will include occasional required travel. This role will include in-office and hybrid work.
Required Job Qualifications
+ MSW degree
+ Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
+ Demonstrated attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects and professional communication at once and on time based on application materials
+ Demonstrated commitment to CSU’s Principles of Community based on a history of training, education and/or activities
+ Identified contributions and/or ability to contribute to our land-grant mission of unlocking the doors of opportunity for everyone
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Experience with social work students in academic and/or agency settings
+ Experience with project management
+ 2 years of post- MSW practice experience
+ Familiarity with Colorado social/human service systems and agencies
+ Familiarity with digital and online communications, learning software, and computer databases
+ Ability to facilitate conversations and work on recruitment and retention strategies with an awareness of CSU’s Principles of Community
+ Experience living within or collaborating with institutionally under-resourced communities
+ Experience and enthusiasm working as a supervisor or mentor, while valuing all members of the community, including their various identities, skills, ideas, talents and contributions.

+ Engage with prospective students regarding program structure, requirements, and resources
+ Facilitate pre-program meetings with students to support the transition into the program
+ Monitor and oversee student progress to support student engagement with and success in the program, with respect to classroom and/or internship placement experiences
+ Meet with students to design and achieve personalized academic and career goals and offer curricular and professional expertise about the program of study and available options
+ Provide ongoing 1:1 support to any identified students in alignment with retention and student development goals
+ Collaboratively facilitate events such as student orientations, community networking opportunities, trainings, and workshops
+ Mentor students in their professional development
+ Engage in ongoing communications with students and employees about program details
+ Promote ongoing points of connection and regular communication with cohorts of students, individually and collectively, through planned events and maintaining availability for drop-in appointments
+ Monitor and document all individualized plans to ensure all requirements are fulfilled to support graduation
+ Be a resource to students facing difficulties to offer support and/or provide referrals as needed
+ Encourage students to take part in activities that will enrich their academic and professional development
+ Coordinate with entities such as the Advising Network, Graduate School, and College of Health and Human Sciences ( CHHS ) to represent the School of Social Work in recruitment events and communications
+ Utilize relevant software and databases to maintain student and agency records
+ Perform other duties as needed
