PURPOSE
The team takes care of end-to-end data platform operational support for Microsoft data platform products across the globe where Scotiabank is present. Physical & logical database services, from deployment, project support and after go live steady state support is the essence of what we do.
Reporting to the DBA Manager, the Senior DBA would be supporting the MS SQL. As a member of the database administration group, the Senior DBA will assist in the team effort to maximize the availability, security, and performance of the databases.
The Senior DBA is required to take shifts and be on-call for rotational after-hours support of the bank’s databases. The Senior DBA must be prepared to provide remote dial-in support, or occasionally on-site support in response to routine monitoring alerts and scheduled & unscheduled maintenance tasks occurring after hours and on weekends.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Configuration planning & deploying MS SQL servers on cloud and on-premise servers.
• Performance Tunning and general health.
• Do routine maintenance including database rebuilds/re-indexing/expansion and archiving. • Trouble-shoot MS SQL server problems and assist in the resolution of application problems.
• Server upgrades/migrations.
• Assist in database code promotions & data fixes.
• Disaster Recovery/High Availability (DR/HA), backup & recovery of local and remote replicated databases.
• Provide DBA support to development/implementation projects as assigned, doing installations, database loading, migrations, testing, etc.
• Involve in database incidents calls and troubleshooting with other teams
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• You have at least 5+ years of progressive technical working experience as a Database Administrator. At least 2 years of MSSQL Administration and Operation.
• You possess sound practical working knowledge of:
- MS SQL Server 2022/2019/2017/2016
- Windows Servers 2022/2019/2026
- Azure IaaS, MI and DBaaS database Support - GCP Cloud SQL MSSQL database support - Stored Procedures Tunning.
- Setup SQL Always-On & Database Replication
- Data Encryption & Masking
- Database Re-build / De-fragment techniques
- Logical & Physical Backup / Recovery techniques
- MS SQL Services installation/configuration of (SSRS/PowerBI/SSAS/SSIS/PolyBase, R Service)
- SQL Server side and application query tuning.
• You have good analytical, problem solving, trouble shooting and automation skills.
• You are a quick learner, with good interpersonal and communication (verbal/written) skills.
• Experience with the following would be an asset: TSQL, and script language
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Math, or related discipline.
• Microsoft Data Platform certification is an asset for this role.
