This announcement will be used to fill a Special Teacher- ASL position at the MN State Academy for the Deaf. This position will provide ASL classes to staff and students. This is a ten month per year position; the work schedule follows the school calendar. This position requires the following: + The ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals, colleagues, and families to support student learning and development. + The ability to plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with MSA’s curriculum and state academic standards. **Positions at MN State Academy for the Deaf require American Sign Language (ASL) skills. Candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire** **Minimum Qualifications** + Must possess a current Minnesota Special Education license or DHH license or have the ability to obtain one by the start date + Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in ASL in a classroom setting. + Demonstrated organizational skills in managing lesson planning, assessment, instructional materials, and communication with parents and staff. + Proficiency in using educational technology, applications, and assistive technology tools to enhance learning and accessibility. + Experience with behavior management strategies aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). + Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain accurate records and submit required reports in a timely manner. + Knowledge of and experience with IEP/IFSP development and implementation, including differentiation, accommodations, and modifications for students with diverse needs. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience teaching in a bilingual (ASL/English) environment and applying bilingual language development strategies across the curriculum. + Knowledge and application of ASL content standards, ASL/English literacy strategies, and language development. + Familiarity with the use of assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student progress on IEP goals. + Experience developing, coordinating, and inventorying curriculum materials. + Demonstrated ability to plan school-wide ASL/Deaf Culture events. + Experience collaborating with other teachers and staff to support language development. **Physical Requirements** + Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand and walk throughout the workday **Additional Requirements** + Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Minnesota State Colleges and Universities is an Equal Opportunity employer/educator committed to the principles of diversity.
