This is a twelve-month (year-round) full-time position at the Minnesota State Academies in Faribault, Minnesota. The Director of the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (MSAD) manages MSAD's administration, operations, strategic planning, hiring/personnel issues, communication, budgetary needs and requirements, and coordination of services and instruction for deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf blind students, including those with additional learning and physical needs. The MSAD director also ensures compliance with the students' Individual Education Programs. Responsibilities include: 1. Maintaining and extending contacts and partnerships with schools for the deaf nationwide; state agencies, other educational institutions; school districts and cities statewide; and other residential educational facilities to maximize the Academy's access to best practices in education of the deaf/hard of hearing/deafblind children 2. Collaborates with administrative team and educational staff to formulate and implement strategic plans to extend and improve education for D/HH/DB children 3. Development, implementation, and support for curricular and instructional changes to ensure high expectations and supports for high quality educational experiences for our students 4. Support the Board of MSA in carrying out the policies and annual school goals, including regular reports and information sharing 5. Collaborates with the Director of the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind, the Director of Curriculum and Educational Programs, and the Director of Student Support Services to establish appropriate instructional programming that provides high quality instruction to students who are deaf, hard -of-hearing, blind, visually-impaired, and/or deaf-blind in order to help them progress academically and socially through the implementation of MSA's educational program and components of each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP). **Minimum Qualifications** + Master's Degree in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education; Educational leadership, or a related field + At least 5 years of experience working with Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deafblind students in a school environment + At least 2 years of experience supervising professional/licensed staff in an educational program at a residential school serving D/HH/DB children + Teacher Licensure (current or previously held) in D/HH education is required (Candidates must be able to obtain or renew Minnesota licensure within the first 3 months of employment + Current Principal Licensure in the state of Minnesota. (Candidates must be able to obtain licensure within the first 12 months of employment.) + Demonstrated knowledge and skills in implementation of educational programs, curriculum, and assessment for children of all ages (Birth-22), including the ability to share information about educational approaches, programming, curriculum, and IEP procedures with MSA stakeholder groups + The ability to work effectively with a number of systems, including local, regional, and state-wide education programs, state agencies (including the Minnesota Department of Education), various advocacy and consumer/community groups for parents and families, and other organizations serving D/HH/DB populations is essential to this position. + Advanced ASL Skills **Preferred Qualifications** + Two years of successful experience working as a principal or special education director in a school setting. + Extensive knowledge and skills in working with children who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or deafblind + In-depth knowledge and skills in best practices regarding instruction, classroom management, assessment and instruction, and educational programming specific to deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind students. + Thorough knowledge of MSAD academic and residential programs, including extracurricular activities and training/professional development opportunities **Additional Requirements** + Successful completion of a Criminal Background check AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Minnesota State Colleges and Universities is an Equal Opportunity employer/educator committed to the principles of diversity.
