MRI Technologist
Position Summary Performs MRI imaging procedures under the direction of the medical director. Responsible for carrying out patient safety protocols. Performs complex diagnostic Magnetic Resonance examination using advanced imaging, recording and processing devices. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of imaging needs. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience One year of general radiology experience or completion of Med Center Health MRI training required. Previous MRI experience preferred.
Education Graduate of a Radiology Technology, Ultrasonography, (OR) Nuclear Medicine program required.
Certifications/Licensure ARRT-MR required. Job Specific Performance Standards The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time.
  Performs M.R.I. exams as ordered by referring physicians, including filming, post processing and archiving of acquired images.  Positions patients appropriately to assure suitable anatomical posture and image.  Shields patients as necessary. Changes or adjusts the system technical factors as necessary and within department policy to meet the needs of the patient and or physicians’ requirements. Reviews Inpatient and Outpatient orders and consults Radiologist if necessary. Makes required changes and adjustments in orders as requested. Records and alerts manager of errors or malfunctions to the system. Identifies minor and major problems related to the operation of the M.R.I. system.  Performs necessary system shutdown and restart procedure. Greets and registers patients.  Obtains clinical and insurance information including insurance cards and any orders sent by referring physician.  Obtains patient or guardian signature as needed. Routinely questions the patient before the start of the exam and completes M.R.I. safety forms and questions concerning pacemakers, heart valves, or previous surgery. Places patients at ease about their examination and will attempt to accommodate any special needs of the various patient age groups and effectively communicate with those patients.
