Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC on a full-time basis.
The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Motorsports F1 Systems Engineer with experience in the McLaren Applied Technologies (MAT) software suite to support our Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulation operations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, and capable of managing complex systems in a high-pressure motorsport environment. This role is primarily responsible for real-time support of simulation sessions, telemetry systems, and electronics/hardware integration within our Formula 1 simulator program.
What You’ll Do
Systems Monitoring & Session Management
Own the System Monitor role during DiL running sessions
Monitor and manage real-time data streams, control systems, and telemetry throughout simulation events
Act as first responder to hardware and software issues during live simulator sessions
Event and In-Session Support
Provide agile, high-level support during DiL and live event operations
Debug across hardware and software systems in real-time to ensure minimal disruption
Transition to on-call support once systems become robust and self-sustaining
MAT & Telemetry Tools
Work proficiently with McLaren Applied tools such as vTAG, ATLAS, System Monitor (SM), and other SECU tools
Manage and configure telemetry and control system files across multiple simulator environments
Hardware and Software Integration
Understand and support DiL rig hardware, SECU, CAN systems, and the interface between rig and Dymola vehicle models
Ensure accurate data stream mapping, channel configurations, and model interactions
Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate daily with Electronics, Controls, Simulation/Modeling, and Vehicle Performance Groups (VPG)
Coordinate between internal and external technical teams to resolve issues and deliver seamless simulation operations
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Minimum of five years of post-graduate industry experience in a related field
Experience with McLaren Applied Technologies (MAT) toolchain: vTAG, ATLAS, SECU, and System Monitor or, closely related motorsports toolchains
Familiarity with F1 or motorsport simulation systems, especially Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL).
Strong understanding of vehicle systems, control theory, and telemetry
Comfort with Dymola/Modelica models and their interactions with simulation hardware/software
Experience troubleshooting complex hardware/software integration issues in real-time

Background in electrical systems, embedded software, or real-time control environments
