Motor Vehicle Operator - Office of the Dean (Temporary) **GENERAL DUTIES** Under supervision operates motor vehicles such as passenger cars, ambulates, vans, hearses, trucks, wreckers, forklifts, tractor-trailer trucks and sign-erecting trucks; in a small garage, may dispatch personnel, motor vehicles and equipment; performs related work. Employees in this title may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, Saturdays, and holidays. + Operates one or more types of motor vehicles such as passenger car, ambulate, van, hearse, truck, wrecker, forklift, tractor-trailer truck and sign-erecting truck. + May drive a truck carrying employees and material to and from work locations. + May act as a chauffeur to an official. + Checks the tires, oil and fuel of the vehicle, replenishes fluids as needed, and checks the vehicle to see that lights, horn and brakes appear to be operating properly. + Reports any noticeable mechanical defects in the vehicle. + Cleans the windows and interior and exterior of the vehicle. + Changes tires or wheels. + Assists in loading and unloading of materials, equipment and passengers. + Reports any accidents in which the vehicle may have been involved. + Operates motor equipment mounted on, or transported by, the vehicle. + Watches for traffic hazards while labor force is engaged in making emergency repairs. + Transports collectors and cases of coin boxes to and from collection areas. + Is responsible for tools, supplies, materials and equipment carried in or on the assigned vehicle. + Prepares trip reports. + In a small garage, may dispatch personnel, motor vehicle and equipment. **CONTRACT TITLE** Motor Vehicle Operator **FLSA** Non-exempt **CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION** The CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (27 months program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school’s mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY SoM places a special emphasis on the recruitment of those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine and on training high quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York’s medically under-served communities. As a major priority, CUNY SoM also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to more closely reflect the diversity of our student body. The SoM is currently seeking a Motor Vehicle Operator for transporting the Dean, C-level employees, and VIP guests to and from their housing destinations, worksites, events, or airport. Practice safe driving at all times, routing around traffic congestion and slowdowns. Assist with loading and unloading personal possessions and luggage and ensure that each trip is smooth, safe, and pleasant. This role requires a general understanding of executive protection and safe driving techniques. Reporting directly to the Dean of the SoM, the Motor Vehicle Operator campus specific duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities: + Provide executive support and transportation services for the Dean while on campus, during local area travel, on-site and local off-site events, and after business travel – via a college owned vehicle; + Driving services may be required for escorting dignitaries, public officials, industry executives and other individuals visiting the Dean’s Office; Must maintain a strong customer service mentality. + May conduct advanced venue or off campus site visits to assist with logistics planning in order to support the Dean and various SoM staff members at various corporate functions to ensure proper coordination of security staff and venue safety. + Provide administrative support and guidance for meetings and events with executives to ensure adequate customer service and logistical support are provided. + Work independently and adapt to various environments while demonstrating high attentiveness, energy, confidentiality, and professionalism with an ability to remain calm and collected in stressful situations. + Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or designee. + May conduct advanced venue or off campus site visits to assist with logistics planning in order to support the Dean and various SoM staff members at various corporate functions to ensure proper coordination of security staff and venue safety. + Provide administrative support and guidance for meetings and events with executives to ensure adequate customer service and logistical support are provided. + Work independently and adapt to various environments while demonstrating high attentiveness, energy, confidentiality, and professionalism with an ability to remain calm and collected in stressful situations.. + Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or designee. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** 1. There are no formal education or experience requirements. 2. Candidates will be required to undergo a medical examinations. Note: + Possession of a Motor Vehicle License valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. + For appointment to certain positions in some agencies, possessions of a Class A, B or C Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York, or a combination of these licenses, or possession of valid New York State Learner's Permit for Class A, B or C Commercial Driver License, may be required. A candidate with a Learners' Permit must obtain the appropriate driver license within three months from the date of appointment. + History of serious moving violations, license suspension or serious accidents may disqualify for appointment. Employees must maintain the appropriate driver license(s) for the duration of their employment. **COMPENSATION** New Hire: $45,496* Incumbent: $51,410 *This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only. **BENEFITS** CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification.
