Summary The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Motor Vehicle Operator. The Motor Vehicle Operator will function under the Supply Chain Management Service. Responsibilities The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to; Must follow all safety rules, regulations, and traffic signs; drive carefully to assure safety of cargo. Must see that vehicles are not overloaded. The incumbent is responsible for completing work after receiving initial oral or written instructions. Incumbent will be driver for material handlers, providing assistance in all moves, installation of furniture, and moving of furnishings. Performs inventory of stock items or other areas of the Medical Center as assigned. Will be back up driver for linen distribution and warehouse. Some of the duties assigned will consist of returning soiled/clean linen by transporting to soiled linen holding rooms and /or laundry. Responsible for for picking up clean linen/uniforms and patient clothing from the Textile Care Facility. Delivering supplies and products from the warehouse to location at this Medical Center as assigned. The incumbent is responsible for driving, loading, and unloading all cargo. Assists in lifting and carrying supplies hauled; arranges loads in the vehicle to proper weight distribution and safety. The incumbent is responsible for handling such assignments as the receipt of incoming shipments from the offloading dock. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be able to perform tasks necessitating very heavy physical efforts such as frequent lifting and moving objects weighing 75 - 100 pounds. The incumbent will be expected to work outside in all kinds of weather and inside areas that may e dusty, drafty, and noisy. Must move and control heavy equipment, carry, setup, and work from ladders & scaffolding. Is required to work in all kinds of weather and varying road conditions, as well as moving supplies and equipment into and out of buildings. Also must be able to push loaded carts weighing up to 800 pounds or more. Requires extreme physical effort to prevent items from slipping of falling off the truck power lift gate, especially during inclement weather. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
