Mold Technician

JSG a professional search firm is seeking a Mold Technician who is responsible for setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing molds used in plastic injection molding machines. This role ensures optimal mold performance and uptime, supports production efficiency, and helps maintain the quality of molded products.
Key Responsibilities: Install and remove molds in injection molding machines according to production schedules and safety standards. Perform mold setups, changeovers, and startups to ensure efficient production runs. Inspect, clean, and maintain molds and mold components to prevent production issues and extend tool life. Troubleshoot and repair mold-related problems such as flashing, short shots, or damage to cavities/cores. Work with process technicians and quality staff to identify and resolve molding issues. Ensure proper alignment, venting, cooling, and ejection systems are functional during mold installation. Maintain accurate records of mold use, maintenance, and repairs in accordance with company documentation procedures. Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to safely transport molds. Follow all company safety and housekeeping guidelines. Assist with preventive maintenance of mold bases, hot runner systems, and tooling components. Communicate with engineering and tool room staff to recommend improvements to mold performance and tooling design. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in mold or tooling maintenance preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in mold setup, maintenance, or repair in a plastic injection molding environment. Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of injection mold tooling and functions. Ability to read blueprints, tool drawings, and maintenance documentation. Familiarity with hot runner systems, hydraulic components, and mold temperature control. Experience using hand tools, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and other precision measuring equipment. Ability to operate cranes, hoists, and forklifts safely (certification preferred). Basic understanding of safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and OSHA standards. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Skills: Experience with mold polishing, welding, or bench repair. Knowledge of scientific molding principles. Familiarity with ISO 9001or similar quality standards. CMMS experience for tracking mold maintenance. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus preferred. Working Conditions: Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise, heat, and machinery. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and use of hands for inspection tasks. Available to work 12-hour shift, weekend, and overtime as needed. Compensation Full company benefits, including medical & dental, PTO etc with pay rates between $25 and $30hr
