Job Description:
The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership to develop next generation injection molding tool designs to support new product development; in addition, this person will be responsible for sustaining and improving current legacy designs to achieve efficiency improvements along with the following duties / responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead all aspects in the design and manufacturing of metal injection molds.Estimates and plans job hours for timely completion of assigned work projects.Design injection molds according to verbal instructions and Engineering drawingsResponsible for producing all types of complex mold designs using the CAD system to support new molds and support/improve legacy moldsResearch and develop Bill of Materials for mold design and fabrication.Identify the critical function dimensions in steel based on customer input and in-process dimensions for fit, function and flash limits.Produce complete tool or mold designs including concept design, preliminary design, preparation for delivery design reviews, 2D mold assemblies, detailed prints BOM creation for Class A Molds with tolerances of ±.0001Responsible for review of all prints, models and assemblies to assure accuracy before release.Work with the R&D Design team during the product development cycle: DFM (design for manufacture)Conduct design concept meetings, design review meetings, and kick-off meetings with shop personnel and the engineering teamUse understanding of Advanced programming of CNC equipment such as Vertical Milling Centers, Wire EDM’s, Sinker EDM’s utilizing CADCAM systems to work with Tool Makers on fabrication of the moldAbility to resolve practical tooling problems associated with injection molds, components, fixtures and support equipment. and bench test tools for proper fitting, clearances, and tolerances.Works closely in Injection Molding Department with operators, MIM Engineers and technicians, and management.Oversee and work with maintenance/facilities and vendors on the installation, repair, and maintenance of toolroom equipment.Provides direction, training and coaching for lower-level associates.Regular reporting of progress to the management team, both verbally and through written reports.100% support of the Mold Makers, Programmers, and production teams on a daily basisPerform other duties as assigned by Manager.CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
AA / Technical degree, technical apprenticeship, or 15+ years’ experience in a technical tool making and mold designing role in an injection molding manufacturing environment.EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3 years’ experience programming CNC controllers and post processors, working knowledge of Esprit 2D/3D/ Freeform CAM software required.Proven expertise in usage of CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CAD PDM) and MS Office SuiteStrong background in design of Plastic/ MIM injection mold, mechanical, and mold manufacturing with tolerances of ±.0001”.Full understanding of materials and materials properties.Ability to conduct mold flow analysis utilizing simulation software.Drafting skills and full understanding of GD&T tolerances and dimensions for high precision medical devices.Have the basic understanding of the CMM machines and how it is utilized for verification, plus be able to help coordinate and design checking fixtures for the product or part the mold produce.Familiar with Lean techniques to streamline and improve machine shop job flow.Competent with use of personal computers and related software is desirable, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required.Proficient in pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical design.Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.LANUGUAGE SKILLS:
Excellent communications skills, both written and oral are required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and operating procedures. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization is required.

Required to follow safety rules when operating machine equipment and assembling molds and mold assemblies. Follow Corporate and Departmental Environmental Quality, and Safety Programs; including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as ear plugs, safety glasses, badges, and steel toe shoes as applicable.
