The Model Specialist is part of the US Distribution (USD) Product team and is matrixed to Wealth Management Divisional Sales Leaders of the Specialist’s coverage area and maintains strong connectivity with:
Franklin Templeton Investment Solutions (FTIS) for strategy insights, portfolio construction, and model portfolio updates and positioningMarket Leaders & National Accounts for advisor enablement and client coverageThis hybrid role combines investment fluency, client consulting, and commercial acumen, making it central to FT’s advisor-centric distribution strategy.
The Model Specialist plays a critical, hybrid client-facing role within USD. This specialist acts as a bridge between FTIS investment capabilities, and the portfolio needs of financial advisors. The Model Specialist supports Market Leaders, DSMs and RIA teams by providing expert guidance on portfolio design, model implementation, and investment strategy education.
This role is particularly focused on:
Articulating and positioning FTIS’ investment modelsAssisting financial advisors who operate as portfolio managers (Rep-as-PM) with portfolio construction guidance and education on FTIS investment modelsDelivering FTIS customized model portfolios and analytics for high-net-worth clients and institutionsIdentifying opportunities for FTIS investment models by building relationships with firm Centers of InfluenceJob Responsibilities:
Thought Leadership & Education:
Deliver portfolio construction guidance rooted in FTIS and Institute’s capital markets outlook and asset allocation frameworks.Educate financial advisors and internal sales teams on the construction, performance, and rationale behind FTIS’ model portfolios.Conduct advisor workshops, due diligence meetings, and portfolio review sessions to deepen understanding of portfolio construction and benefits of utilizing models within their practices.Model Portfolio Support:
Dedicated geographic coverage aligned to specific regions supporting multiple channels, including Independent Broker Dealer, Wealth Management, and Registered Investment Advisor.Engage with FAs in person and over the phone, utilizing screen share technology to leverage FT resources, tools, and model portfolios effectively. The role is expected to have 20-25% travelBecome an expert in our FTIS allocation views, portfolio changes/rationale, performance, positioning points, and the competitive landscape.Prepare and deliver compelling presentations to clients and prospects, showcasing the benefits and performance of our model portfolios.Stay informed about market trends, economic developments, and investment strategies to provide valuable insights and recommendations to client advisors and clients.Collaborate with advisors to deliver market and portfolio insights and drive adoption and investment in our model portfolios.Ensure all client communications and portfolio recommendations adhere to regulatory requirements and internal risk management policies.Work closely with various teams, including marketing, sales, and operations, to support the promotion and distribution of model portfolios.Responsible for achieving a sales goal on FTIS models which is shared with relevant territory.Rep-as-PM Enablement:
Consult directly with financial advisors to review and enhance their own investment models.Provide diagnostics, performance attribution, and asset allocation analysis using PAT (Portfolio Analytics Tool) and other analytical tools as necessaryOffer guidance on portfolio design aligned with regulatory, FTIS, and client outcome considerations.Custom Model Construction:
Partner with FTIS and the field sales teams to support FTIS’ delivery of customized investment proposals and models for large client opportunities (e.g., HNW, family offices, RIA aggregators, etc)Integrate FT products, including Canvas, digital assets and alternative investments, into tailored portfolios reflecting specific client mandates, tax constraints, or other specific goals.Collaborate with FTIS portfolio managers, Market Leaders and National Accounts to ensure implementation feasibility.Ideal Qualifications:
7+ years of experience in portfolio consulting, investment product management, or model strategyStrong technical understanding of multi-asset portfolio construction, investment vehicles (mutual funds, ETFs, SMAs), and capital marketsExcellent communicator with the ability to translate investment insights into actionable guidanceProficiency with portfolio analytics and financial planning tools (e.g., Morningstar, FT Portfolio Analytics Tool, Excel)Ability to travel approximately 20-25% of timeFINRA Series 7 and 63CFA or CIMA, CAIA preferredFranklin Templeton offers employees a competitive and valuable range of total rewards—monetary and non-monetary — designed to support their well-being and recognize their time, talents, and results.
