Reporting directly to the Manager, Studio Resources, in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD), the incumbent oversees approximately 35 Models for over 100 Life Drawing & Painting classes per week for the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. The model coordinator supports curriculum delivery in programs such as the Honours Bachelor of Animation, Honours Bachelor of Illustration, Visual and Creative Arts, and Art Fundamentals, as well as supplementary programming, including Extra Life Studio.
The incumbent develops and manages the complex schedule that coordinates the life model team. They are responsible for the ongoing procurement and maintenance of costumes and props, as well as the coordination of these assets. Working closely with the Draw Paint Studio Technologist, the incumbent recruits and oversees a team of student workers who monitor extra life sessions.
In collaboration with the Manger, Studio Resources, the incumbent assists in developing procedures for Life Modelling Studio best practices and supports the continued recruitment of a diverse team of models.
What You’ll Be Doing
Scheduling, communication and key administrative duties; Developing complex semester-long timetables for all model bookings, upwards of 100 sessions per week, drawing from program timetables and available rooms (for Extra Life Drawing Studio use); Collaborating, when possible, with faculty to populate the semester-long table with session details; determining curriculum needs, and incorporating last-minute changes where possible. This can include specific types of poses, model skill sets, costumes and props, themes, specific stage setups, as well as single or double model poses; Booking models in an “as agreed upon” manner, per session. Considering their availability, suitability for curriculum needs and maximum weekly hours; Urgently revising schedules when faculty and/or models cancel sessions due to illness or inclement weather, ensuring curriculum needs are met as much as possible. Cascading revisions may occur over multiple weeks; Communicating with faculty regarding scheduled models and changes where applicable and with models regarding session specifics, including changes as needed and weekly updates; Supporting the Studio Resources Manager with administrative duties as it pertains to the hiring of Life Models, including conducting pre-screening calls, scheduling of interviews and assisting with orientation and training; Researching and preparing costumes and props; Researching, creating, organizing, preparing, and maintaining costume and prop inventory; Composing costumes from scratch (drafts and sews) or construct designs from existing clothing to realize a comparable outfit; Creating costume packages per model per class as required by the curriculum and faculty requests. This can include up to 25 packages per week, featuring several garments, props, accessories such as shoes and jewelry or textile fabrics used for drapery exercises, or all of the above; Tracking and maintaining inventory of garments and props and is responsible for their proper storage, regular cleaning, mending, and replacement as needed; Ensuring the dedicated Model Lounge/change room is safe, clean, and hazard-free; Meeting with academic and administrative teams as needed for planning and curriculum development; Performing other related duties, as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:
• Possess a degree in Fine Arts, Costume/Theatre, or related field of study;
• Have a minimum of 3 years experience in a life drawing studio environment;
• Experience with in a post-secondary environment will be considered an asset.
