Mission Operations Development Engineer (Engineer/Principal Engineer Systems)

The Integrated Operations Development group is looking for a Mission Operations Lead Engineer to join a growing team. This position is for a full-time technical role located on our Gilbert, AZ campus.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Provide mission operations support to NGSS Satellite programsLead system development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration and test and formal program milestonesAct as primary interface to customer operations and support teamWork with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of satellitesCreate and deliver status presentations at key milestone eventsDirect/conduct testing using simulators and resolve discrepanciesLead the development and testing of procedures, scripts, telemetry pages, and other products derived from vendor provided documentationLead the development of test procedures and test execution for system level, end-to-end tests with the spacecraftLead and organize mission readiness activities including mission rehearsals, mission timeline development, and post launch test developmentSupport and schedule all subsystem engineers needed for launch, including shift work, for instrument and spacecraft checkout activitiesMonitor vehicle state of health across all subsystems.Perform short and long-term telemetry trendingTrack space vehicle configuration, to include both hardware, software, and configurable item parametersLead anomaly resolution efforts.Make modifications to existing operations procedures to incorporate lessons learned from in-flight performance. Develop new procedures as requiredProvide status reporting through both the functional and program reporting branchesProvide support to multiple programsMaintain standards associated with the established Integrated/Developmental Operations functional group processesLead/support internal and external customer meetings through proficient verbal and documented (MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel) communications.Provide mentoring and guidance to the mission operations teamMay require shift work and travel ~ 20% of the time for simulation/rehearsal and launch support.

This position can be filled as an Engineer (level 2) or Principal Engineer (level 3) depending on years of experience and qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM discipline

Minimum of 2 years (level 2) or 5 years (level 3) of relevant experience

Experience with at least one S/C Subsystem (ADCS/GNC, command and data handling, communications, power, Thermal, flight software, orbital planning, and dynamics, etc.)System engineering experience or significant classwork in system engineering or system designExperience writing technical documents for internal or external customersOutstanding verbal and written communications skills, including ability to make persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviewsExperience with scriptingMust be able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearanceExperience with LabView and Simics

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work within a group of diversified individuals with varying backgrounds to achieve mission successSupport of readiness activities to include Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), Mission Rehearsals (MRs), Day In The Life (DITL) and daily operations testingExperience with spacecraft launch campaignsFamiliarity with training and certification programs for space system operatorsExperience working on government systems and/or government process environmentActive Top Secret/SCI clearancePrior experience conducting on-orbit mission operations or resolving satellite/ground system anomaliesExperience with PERL and Python scripting

Primary Level Salary Range: $77,000.00 - $105,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $132,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
