As a Qualified Reserve Engineer, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve business issues, deliver high quality client service and operational efficiency. In this important new role, you will serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical insight and performing certain audit procedures to help engagement teams assess the reasonableness of mineral reserves and resources estimates prepared by company-employed/engaged qualified persons (QPs) that impact financial reporting, leveraging your own QP-level expertise. The successful candidate will play a critical role in assisting our audit teams in understanding, obtaining and evaluating audit evidence related to the determination of mineral reserves and resources, ensuring compliance with applicable auditing standards over testing estimates and reliance on information prepared by a management specialist or expert. The role requires a deep understanding of mine engineering, including experience with reserve estimation, mine planning and reporting.
The primary objective in this role will be to assist audit engagement teams in assessing the reasonableness of reserve and resource estimates prepared by company-employed and/or externally engaged QPs. Key responsibilities in achieving this objective may include byt are not limited to:
Support audit teams in completing risk assessment and scoping procedures required to properly scope the audit approach related to reserve estimates;
Liaise directly with audit clients and their engaged QPs to understand the client’s process for preparing reserve estimates, including the methodology and models used;
Interface with external regulators to articulate and support the audit approach to reserves;
Assist engagement teams in assessing the design and operating effectiveness of controls related to reserve and resource estimates;
Assist engagement teams in determining whether the methodology, models used in the reserve and resource evaluations are appropriate and consistent with industry standards, including NI 43-101,CIM and SEC Mining disclosure rules;
Assist engagement teams in reviewing financial and non-financial data as well as key non-financial assumptions relevant to the determination of reserve volumes and cash flows and assessing whether the data and assumptions have been appropriately incorporated into the reserve and resource estimates. This may involve analyzing geological and technical data - such as drill logs, assay results, core samples and mine plans - conveyed by the client to the QP;
Prepare appropriate documentation outlining procedures performed and conclusions reached for inclusion in the audit engagement team’s documentation related to reserve and resource estimates;
Work closely with the firm’s audit methodology team to build out an effective auditor’s expert function for reserves and resources, including:
Determining the nature, timing and extent of procedures to be performed by the auditor experts and identifying the appropriate size and composition of the auditor expert function based on this scoping.
Provide training and guidance to audit teams on evaluating methods and assumptions used by specialists.
Develop guidance documents and checklists to assist audit teams in performing audit procedures over mining reserves and resource estimates.
Experiences and skills you’ll use to solve:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive related experience in mining engineering or related.
Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or a related field.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
Strong understanding of NI 43-101, and SEC mining disclosure rules.
Strong knowledge of industry standards in mineral resource and mineral reserve estimation including CIM, JORC, CRISCO and/or SME guidelines.
Proficiency in geological and technical data analysis.
Experience with mining engineering, reserve estimation and mine planning.
Strong understanding of metallurgical recovery, cut-off grade and key geological and resource model assumptions.
Experience with industry-standard software (Datamine, Vulcan, Deswik).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using tools such as Power BI, Excel, Tableau, and Python to interpret and visualize complex data.
Strong communication and documentation skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Competence in sharing knowledge, teaching skills and explaining concepts clearly.

PwC BC Region Pay Range Information
The salary range* for this position is $203,300 - $338,900, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual bonus payment. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon your skills, experience, qualifications and geographic location.
*Please note that the salary range for this position is reflected for our British Columbia region. Given our national recruiting approach, we recruit (and may hire) in other regions and therefore the salary range may differ depending on the work location.
