Job Summary:  

Our Smurfit Westrock Early Careers Engineering Associate will gain hands-on experience in one of Smurfit Westrock’s Mills focusing on areas such as cost savings, environmental, and/or sustainability efforts.  

In this role, you are responsible for providing technical expertise and support for various departments of the organization. You will be involved in managing technical projects aimed at product and process problem solving and/or improvements, cost reduction, and profitability improvement. Provide technical assistance to the operating departments to help them achieve the mill’s goals and objectives. Activities may involve various branches of the engineering profession, for example: electrical, environmental, mechanical, chemical, reliability, or maintenance engineering.

Your impact: 

Design, construct, test and operate equipment, ensuring standards of quality, cost safety, reliability, timeliness and performance are met in production process, interpreting plans, drawings and specifications. 

Assist in troubleshooting problems and teaching others how to react
Assist in the planning and completion of production projects
Administratively track any trials, changes and continual production information
Assist in organizing and implementing any changes or trials
Make daily checks of production output and contributing factors
Promote daily safety communications while helping ensure a clean environment
Responding to customer complaints offering corrective actions
Maintain communications with customers while helping correct problem 

 

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree (BS) from a four-year college or university in engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Paper Science, Packaging, and other related disciplines) with a graduation date on or prior to June 2026.  

  

Experience: 

This role requires a previously held Internship or Co-op with Smurfit Westrock or either legacy company. 

Preferred experience in Pulp and Paper process, process control, project engineering, maintenance, or operations.
