Summary The exploratory middle school teacher supports student success through creative, hands-on lessons across diverse subjects, fostering skills for lifelong learning and career exploration. They help students identify interests and aptitudes through activities, guest speakers and field trips, guiding them toward future career pathways and course selections. This role builds essential personal finance, personal management, communication, and digital literacy skills, encouraging students to discover their strengths and passions while gaining confidence and academic skills. By providing opportunities to explore a variety of fields, the exploratory teacher empowers students to make informed choices about their education and potential future careers. Qualifications + Bachelor's degree from accredited university. + Required: Any K-8, 5-8, K-12, or 5-12 Licensure + Preferred: Health, PE, FCS + Valid Iowa teaching license for subject and level assigned. + Demonstrated competency in the subject area assigned. + Knowledge of academic subject assigned. + Knowledge of curriculum and instruction. + Familiarity with project-based learning. + Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. + Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. + Willingness to be actively involved with staff development opportunities. + Ability to work with technology, specifically learning a student information system for attendance, grades, and planning of lessons. + Performance of other duties as assigned by building administration. Responsibilities + Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. + Facilitate student exploration through activities, projects, and discussions. + Use a variety of teaching methods, including direct instruction, collaborative activities, project-based learning, and experiential education. + Integrate technology effectively to enhance learning and engagement. + Foster a classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and critical thinking. + Develop and implement formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and provide feedback. + Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. + Develop and implement lesson plans (to include activities through distance or virtual learning when necessary) that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. + Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences. + Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology (to include resources for distance or virtual learning when necessary) that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Iowa Department of Education, board policies, and administrative regulations. + Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. + Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district. + Manage student behavior in accordance with policy. + Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. + Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. + Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
