Main Purpose of the Role:The Léman Manhattan Preparatory School Upper School World Language Teacher is part of an exciting and collaborative World Languages Department offering a variety of Language courses, Spanish, French, and Mandarin in the Middle School and/or High School. The World Language Teacher is dedicated to inspiring and engaging students from all over the world in language learning. As a school community we are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.Key Responsibilities: (The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)Teaches a full time load of 5 classesGuides an advisoryKeeps accurate grades using Standard Based GradingCommunicates with students and families with feedback and progress on academic learning throughout the year   Knows and uses a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectivesProvides reports on student progress and maintains open communication with ensuring that these reports are accurate and constructiveDifferentiates instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of studentsIdentifies students who need additional academic assistance and be able to refer such students appropriatelyProvides opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communicationProvides a safe learning environment in which students can take intellectual risksUses learning resources and technology to enhance lessons where appropriateCreates an environment that is respectful and fosters a global mindsetDemonstrates effective organizational skills, including  lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, and designing, and implementing assessmentsExercises classroom management with the use of fair and consistent standards and appropriate expectations that are clearly articulated to the studentsUtilizes learning management and student information systems provided by the schoolPresents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional and ethical as identified in Employee Handbook (inside and outside of school)Continues to grow professionally by participating in educational opportunities, reads professional publications, and participates in professional organizationsDemonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunitiesParticipates in school-wide events; attends during and after-school functions in support of school community  Completes a minimum of two duties as assigned by Division Head (number of duties may vary depending on role) Attends and participates in all required faculty and staff meetings and serves on school committees as requiredCompletes responsibilities as assigned by Division Head or direct supervisor based on student and school needs (e.g. test proctoring)Requirements: Master’s Degree in a related fieldMinimum of 3 years Upper School teaching experienceIB Language A /B experience preferred (Language A/B, Spanish, French or Mandarin)Native SpeakerCommitment to the school’s mission, core values, and inclusion statement  Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the appropriate content area and/or grade levelHighly developed written and verbal communication skills and presentation skillsEffective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessmentsAbility to monitor student progress and report information in a timely mannerAbility to manage, delegate and monitor tasksAbility to mentor and coach students, acts as a student achievement advocate and advisorHighly developed collaborative skills and the ability to work well with others
