Job Description
The Microbiology Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmental samples. This role requires the application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies to ensure accurate testing results.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries.Apply aseptic techniques in daily workload to maintain sample integrity.Maintain media and reagents as needed for daily microbiological testing.Inventory and report expendable supplies and materials necessary for testing requirements.Provide routine preventive maintenance through daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal.Perform quality control monitoring, including taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, and running media controls.Independently pursue assigned processes and procedures in accordance with policies and customer requirements.Maintain laboratory conditions, including equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures.Conduct all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.Share information openly and in a timely manner.Essential SkillsProficiency in Biology, Microbiology, and Chemistry.Experience with aseptic techniques.Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.Capability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsA degree in the Sciences is preferred.Consideration will be given to candidates with laboratory or quality experience without a degree.Work Environment
The work environment involves shifts typically covering Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat, with likely start times between 1 PM and 6 PM. Advancement opportunities are available, including a 90-day review period where employees may receive a pay increase based on attendance, quality of work, and successful completion of training. Internal promotion is encouraged both locally and nationally.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.50/hr.
