Job Description
The Plant Health Team seeks a dedicated Microbiologist to produce high-volume and high-quality inoculum to support the characterization of the North American Breeding pipeline for plant disease traits. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced production environment, with potential exposure to additional projects for skill development.
ResponsibilitiesManipulate and manage a diverse collection of fungal and bacterial pathogens.Conduct molecular characterization and identification of microorganisms.Document microorganisms in online databases.Develop and implement in planta and in vitro assays.Conduct quality assurance and quality control assessments.Implement sterile techniques throughout the entire pipeline.Prepare various substrates and growth mediums.Infest, dry, harvest, and package inoculum while maintaining sterile technique.Support packaging and shipping procedures while ensuring compliance.Plant, maintain, and inoculate plants, and collect tissue samples.Maintain accurate data records and proper labeling.Dispose of regulated and non-regulated waste regularly in lab and controlled environment spaces.Occasionally travel and work in field sites.Handle frequent shifts in duties.Assist scientists with project-related tasks.Continuously sterilize machinery, materials, labs, greenhouses, and growth chambers.Essential SkillsExperience in microbiology or microorganism-related experience.Experience in mycology and/or microbiology.Proficient in molecular biology techniques for biological microorganisms.Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with a dynamic team.Understanding and adherence to good manufacturing processes.Maintaining sterile techniques.Attention to detail and troubleshooting capabilities.Ability to follow standard operating procedures and proper labeling.Good verbal and written communication skills.Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.00/hr.
