Job Description

The Manager of Risk Management is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and personnel functions within the risk management department. This role ensures the effective implementation of strategies aimed at minimizing organizational exposure to liability while promoting patient safety and regulatory compliance. The manager plays a key role in risk assessment, compliance oversight, staff education, and incident reporting—aligning departmental activities with the organization's mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, addressing operational variances to meet risk management and quality objectives. Develop, implement, and maintain risk management policies, procedures, and standards that align with regulatory requirements and organizational values. Collaborate cross-functionally to identify, assess, and resolve risk-related issues; support quality improvement efforts and the launch of new programs. Lead and manage risk assessments, internal investigations, and reporting of actual and potential risks, ensuring prompt and effective resolution. Provide ongoing education and training to staff on risk management protocols, incident reporting, and patient safety practices to foster a culture of safety. Oversee the management and response to legal claims and lawsuits, including investigation, documentation, and coordination with legal counsel. Support departmental budgeting processes, identifying resource and equipment needs to achieve strategic goals. Perform other duties as assigned, and ensure compliance with all internal policies and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Risk Management, or related field preferred. 3–5 years of experience in healthcare risk management, compliance, or quality assurance required. 1–2 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

In-depth knowledge of healthcare risk management principles, patient safety standards, and regulatory compliance. Experience in policy development, quality assurance, and departmental budgeting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills; capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for identifying and mitigating risks.

Certifications

CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management) preferred.
