MF - IMS Engineer

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced IMS Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in remote access to IMS-Transaction Manager (IMS-TM) and IMS-Database (IMS-DB), with hands-on experience using the RYO “Roll-Your-Own” remote library to connect C applications to IMS-DB. Additionally, this role requires practical experience with IMS Connect. A strong understanding of COBOL, Python, and Linux is essential for success in this position. The selected candidate will also serve as a thought leader, driving innovation and shaping the direction of our IMS technologies.

Job specifics/responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain solutions for accessing IMS-TM and IMS-DB remotely, ensuring secure and efficient communication.Assist in creating a new RYO “Roll-Your-Own” remote library to integrate C applications with IMS-DB effectively.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze business requirements and implement robust IMS solutions.Develop, test, and debug high-quality COBOL and Python applications for interfacing with IMS systems.Optimize database queries and transaction workflows to enhance system performance and reliability.Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to IMS systems, remote connectivity, Linux-based environments, and IMS Connect.Document technical specifications, architecture, and procedures for maintaining IMS solutions.Act as a thought leader within the organization, introducing innovative solutions and strategies to improve IMS systems and processes.

Cataloguing different out of the box ways to remotely connect to IMSCreate reference / sample implementation for others to use a base patterThe samples will include both Batch and real-time processingWork the team to create automated scriptsto enable remote access to IMSTo create a generic API service layer for remote accessWork with the team to improve interoperability between IMS and DB2Implement automation according to technical plan, cost and timeframeMight also include architect tasks as required by projectCustomer SatisfactionDeliver on commitments

Working relationships:

Education (degree) and professional experience required:

Degree in computer science, information  technology,  information  systems or electrical engineering  or equivalent At least 3 years’ experience in an advanced support role or equivalentCustomer facing experience

Other requirements:

Fluent in written and spoken English language

Self-motivated individual, able to work independently, in coordination with a teamAble to work effectively across technical and non-technical teamsAbility to translate customer, business and functional requirementsExcellent customer, telephone, oral and written communications skillsAnalytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsTime management skills and working with tough deadlines

Essentialz/OS, JCL, etc. mainframe skillSeveral years of ITO operational and/or engineering experienceAnsible, Terraform, COBOL development relevant experienceDXC Operations Orchestration development relevant experienceBeing able to author and deploy automated workflowsXML knowledgeWorking knowledge of platforms (Wintel, Linux and Virtualization), networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS) and database environmentsExcellent understanding of DXC ITSM/ITIL framework and processesProficient knowledge of DXC workflow toolsMS OfficeDesirableUnderstanding of DXC Server hardware and datacenter conceptsUnderstanding of ES standardsExperience with one or more of the following: Java, Python, Windows PowerShell, Perl, Linux Shell, SQL scripting, VBScriptWorking knowledge of platforms (Wintel, Linux and Virtualization), networking components (TCP/IP, DNS, and VLAN) and database environmentsUnderstanding of storage and backup technologies
