Mexico Economy & Government Reporter Location Mexico City Business Area News and Media Ref # 10044538 **Description & Requirements** Bloomberg News is looking for an Economy and Government reporter to join our Latin American team in Mexico, which became ground zero for Donald Trump's trade war. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building sources, breaking news and an appetite for chasing stories about the intersection of money and power. Reporting on economic and central banking trends is a critical part of the job as much as pitching and executing bigger stories about Mexico's other key themes, from nearshoring to security and migration. Mexico's proximity to the US and its vast consumer market means you will be working in lockstep with colleagues on the business beat. You'll strive to bring the news to life for international audiences, write headlines and stories with speed and accuracy and take part on big projects across Bloomberg's diverse platforms. Fluency in Spanish and an understanding of the region are essential. You’ll join a team of reporters and editors spread across a dozen Latin American countries. We'll trust you to: - Cover the Mexican government, including the Finance and Economy ministries, the country’s central bank and economic indicators - Break news on your beat with memorable, influential scoops - Build sources that will allow us to deliver these scoops - Cover fast-moving news including economic data releases, events, speeches on the economy, politics and business - Provide quick, smart analyses and more complex enterprise and big-picture thematic stories - Contribute to global stories with the economy and politics teams at Bloomberg, including through our multiple platforms - Be committed to the best journalistic practices, sound judgment and willingness to learn You'll need: - Professional journalism experience and excellent writing skills - Experience working in Latin America, know its decision makers and understand the politics and economics of Mexico and the region - Be able to work in a competitive wire-service atmosphere where speed and quick-thinking are essential - Knowledge of economics, politics and business, being able to produce stories on these topics for both the specialized and the neophyte audience - Know how to work closely with reporters and editors and collaborate across teams in different locations and regions to achieve the best result - Be comfortable in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-moving newsroom where news can break at any time, including nights and weekends, and where analysis and context are needed immediately - The ability to work gracefully under pressure, with multiple deadlines, and to operate well as part of a team and bureau - Be able to undertake several projects at the same time, from news of the day to features and more ambitious stories - The ability to make accurate coverage decisions with sound news judgment and confidence - Fluency in English and Spanish Bloomberg is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company.
