Job Description
The Metrologist is responsible for the design, specification, development, and implementation of measurement systems for various devices. This role involves designing layouts, materials, information flow, and machine placement, as well as increasing production efficiency through performance evaluation and improvement proposals. The Metrologist/Electrical Engineer will install, maintain, improve, and troubleshoot systems affecting manufacturing to ensure final products meet quality standards. Additionally, maintaining calibration systems within the facility is a key responsibility.
ResponsibilitiesInvestigate advanced metrology methods, including multi-sensor CMMs, non-contact inspection systems, and advanced sensors and gaging methods.Work with minimal supervision on engineering support tasks.Design manufacturing and QC processes, including machinery selection and automation level selection, such as CMM, laser scanning systems, vision control systems, and manual equipment.Develop in-depth expertise in electrical and pneumatic instrumentation, including control system interfaces.Lead program leadership on CMM.Test mechanical features using coordinate measuring machines (CMM), video-based inspection and measurement equipment.Drive the qualification of new measurement and testing equipment.Consult and guide site/supplier end users on training and maintenance of new fixtures and equipment.Manage calibration systems, including risk assessments, schedules, methods, and investigations.Conduct static and dynamic repeatability studies for measurement fixtures, manufacturing tooling, and inline measurement gauges.Support design engineering on new development projects.Evaluate and provide input to inspection processes using inspection aids and instruction guidelines.Provide hands-on support during manufacturing, assembly, and testing of prototype and production hardware.Lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with future business needs.Take ownership as the point of contact for metrology issues, including staff training.Support all shifts of 24/7 operations and work off shifts temporarily when needed.Essential SkillsProficiency with CMM and metrology.3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.Experience with Quality Management Systems.Understanding of Cpk - process capability index.Knowledge of GD&T - geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.Additional Skills & QualificationsProven experience working in a similar role, specifically in the metrology field.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Strong organizational skills and analytical mindset.Initiative-taking and able to work both independently and as part of a team.Previous experience working in GxP laboratories is preferred.Knowledge of basic principles in various engineering disciplines.Ability to investigate and learn new technologies within metrology.Coordinate, create, and modify inspection routines on CMM for current and new components.Proficient in mathematical applications: Algebra, Geometry, & Trigonometry.Knowledge of mechanical inspection methods and tools used to determine product acceptance.Ability to communicate effectively on deviations to specifications.Work Environment
You will work in a brand new, clean facility in Flowery Branch, which will eventually be FDA regulated. The site supports drug delivery, healthcare, and industrial products, with potential for consumer product expansion. The environment is equipped with state-of-the-art automated machines and robots.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
